define “defamation”

Two recent American University alumni have decided to sue the university for “defamation of character” because one of its alumni publications mistakenly printed that they were gay.

Now, I in no way support the fact that the university may have allowed this error to go to print. But I do have to ask the question of when the hell we as a society are going to stop looking at homosexuality as scornful. If the magazine had erroneously printed that these two men were married to women, would they be suing anyone? How on earth are we ever supposed to get beyond this sort of garbage if people continue to act in ways that accept the reactions of the ignorant?

What the hell?

  1. Ja Rule tells the new issue of Complex magazine, “We need to go step to MTV and Viacom, and let’s talk about all these fucking shows that they have on MTV that is promoting homosexuality, that my kids can’t watch this shit. Dating shows that’s showing two guys or two girls in mid-afternoon. Let’s talk about shit like that! If that’s not fucking up America, I don’t know what is.

This from the man who gave us ‘Put It On Me’ and ‘Thug Lovin’. He needs some fucking clean shit on TV to park his kids in front of mid-afternoon while he’s off recording another misogynistic ‘gangsta’ song about his feud with 50 Cent.

  2. Reminds me of one of my favorite Onion headlines from a few years back:
